Tamara Matama, MSA
Certified Financial Social Work Coach
Tamara Matama is a financial coach and tax professional as well as the proud founder and CEO of Matama LLC.
While earning her Master of Science in Accounting at Merrimack College, she discovered her passion for personal finance. She started as a graduate assistant at the Financial Capability Center, an office that continues to provide financial education, counseling and coaching to the local community. There, she was responsible for training students to become financial coaches and supporting them as they worked with low-income residents of Lawrence. The beneficiaries of this program included both adults and high school students. The center also provided tax services to the residents through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program where Tamara served as the site coordinator.
After these experiences in education, Tamara moved to Ernst & Young US LLP ("EY") as a Tax Associate. As part of her commitment to EY’s diversity initiative, Tamara took on a role in EY's College Mentoring for Access and Persistence program (CMAP). The CMAP program is a team-mentoring program focused on enabling and empowering students in underserved schools so that they can access college and succeed in higher education.
Tamara worked directly with students and school administrators to facilitate this goal. She assisted students with college applications, scholarship applications and the FAFSA process. Additionally, she walked students through financial packages they received from colleges with the goal of helping the students understand potential financial responsibilities for themselves and their families. At times, Tamara also worked directly with the parents towards this same goal.
These experiences were the inspiration behind Matama LLC. The firm was created to continue educating and empowering the community.
